Museum of Goa, MOG, is an oasis of artistic creativity in the heart of Pilerne. Created by Goan artist, Subodh Kerkar, the museum aims to celebrate the rich art and culture of Goa while also taking visitors through the history of the town. The exteriors of the building are as beautiful as the internal artworks- Goan architect Dean D'cruz created a 16,000 square foot structure for the Museum and an adjoining Sculpture Garden which features magnificent work including The Carpet of Joy, one of Dr Kerkar's most renowned works. Also known as Nossa Senhora da Esperanca, The Church of Lady of Hope is a 16th-century church built in Mannerist Neo-Roman style. Originally erected in 1560, the church underwent an extensive renovation in 1667 by Antonio de Assumpcao. Located in the heart of the Church's main altar is the statue of Our Lady of Hope. In front of the main altar, to the left, is an elaborately carved wooden altar. Large crosses depicting Jesus's crucifixion are situated underneath the sculptures of Jesus and Mother Mary while the left side altar is dedicated to St. Peter. To the east and west of the church, two bell towers soar above the main gable and their pagoda-like roofs add a unique touch.
Located at the foothill of Kavlem village is the Shri Shantadurga Temple one of the most important and the biggest temple in Goa. This temple is dedicated to Goddess Shantadurga the Goddess of Peace, also called 'Santeri' informally. Shree Shantadurga Devi was the name given to the incarnation of Shree Jagdamba Devi who, according to the legends, came to bring harmony between Shree Vishnu and Shree Shiva. The indo-Portuguese architecture of the temple and majestic Shikara, Roman arches and dome are a treat to the eyes. A special aesthetic touch is Agarshala's large structures surrounding the temple and the hues of maroon, peach, and white paint that colour the inside of the temple.
